Syrian Indian Orthodox
Indian Orthodox Christians are the descendants of St. Thomas, the apostle of Christ. St. Thomas landed in a southern port in India in the middle of the first century. He converted few Hindu Brahmins to Christianity and ordained priests mainly from four prominent families, Pakalomattam, Sankarapuri, Kalli and Kaliyankal.
He performed miracles, baptized people and established seven churches, all in Kerala. His followers with strong faith and strict discipline flourished through centuries and kept a tradition of Orthodox faith and rituals of worship. Over the course of time, they were challenged by the Anglicans, Portuguese and Muslims. However, the Orthodox Church survived through these ordeals and succeeded in keeping its tradition in every respect. In orthodox tradition we give specific significance and seek intercession to St. Mary, mother of Jesus, and Saints who were martyred for Christ, our Lord. Traditional Orthodox worship is a unique experience where you can feel the joy of true worship.
